"Reading is a gateway skill that makes all other learning possible."

Kyle Beauliv is a passionate educator with a unique approach to learning that combines literacy, nature exploration, and hands-on experiences. She holds a Bachelor of Education, a Master’s in Education with a specialization in Special Education, and is a Certified Outdoor Practitioner.

With extensive experience teaching both preschool and elementary-aged children, Kyle thrives on creating engaging learning environments both inside the classroom and out in nature. Her mission is to inspire a love of reading, nurture curiosity, and build strong foundations for lifelong learning.

As the founder of The Outdoor Librarian, Kyle brings her vision to life by connecting children to stories and the natural world, fostering creativity, resilience, and a deep appreciation for learning and the environment.

The more stories children hear, the stronger their connection to the world around them and their language development. A rich literacy environment, filled with shared stories, helps children build essential skills to understand, describe, and engage with their surroundings.

"At The Outdoor Librarian, we introduce literacy through hands-on exploration, storytelling, and play, helping children build the foundational skills needed for reading and writing in a fun and meaningful way."

building Literacy Outdoors

» Print Awareness – Children discover that words carry meaning by engaging with signs, maps, and symbols in nature.

» Storytelling & Narrative Skills – Through read-alouds and creative play, children explore story elements like characters, setting, and problem-solving.

» Sound Play & Phonological Awareness – Listening to nature sounds, singing songs, and playing rhyming games strengthen early reading skills.

» Vocabulary & Oral Language – Outdoor experiences introduce new words as children describe plants, animals, textures, and movements.

» Letter Recognition & Writing Readiness – Children form letters using sticks, trace words in the dirt, and find alphabet shapes in nature.

» Fine Motor Development – Digging, stacking, and drawing with natural materials strengthen hand muscles needed for writing.

» Comprehension & Critical Thinking – Following maps, sequencing events, and exploring nature encourages curiosity and problem-solving.

By blending literacy with outdoor play, we nurture a love of reading and storytelling in a way that is inclusive, engaging, and developmentally appropriate. Come explore with us—where stories grow in the great outdoors!
